One Piece Film: Red follows Uta, a legendary singer whose identity had always been concealed before she decides to host her first-ever live concert. With all the world watching, Uta and Luffy meet, with Luffy revealing that Uta is Shank’s daughter.
Will One Piece Film: Red Be Released on Crunchyroll?
While not officially confirmed, it’s very likely that One Piece Film: Red will eventually be released on Crunchyroll. Crunchyroll previously announced that they had entered a partnership with Toei Studios, the producers of One Piece Film: Red, to distribute the movie internationally in subs and dubs. While that announcement only referred to the film’s cinema release, Crunchyroll entered similar agreements with other major anime movies, including Demon Slayer: Mugen Train and Jujutsu Kaisen 0. Both of those movies were first released internationally in cinemas, but both eventually ended up available on Crunchyroll for subscribers. Recently, Crunchyroll has also been releasing clips related to the movie on its official YouTube channels, including full episodes such as the one below: While these YouTube videos are designed to encourage people to book cinema tickets, they also show the depth of relationship between Crunchyroll and Toei Animation, which should help get the movie onto the platform eventually.
One Piece Film: Red Crunchyroll Release Date
Based on previous anime movie releases on Crunchyroll, we don’t expect One Piece Film: Red to arrive until early 2023. Crunchyroll is unlikely to bring One Piece Film: Red to its streaming service until it has completed its box office run. While the film premiered in Japan in August 2022, it does not arrive in most international regions until Fall 2022. The film is set to premiere across North America, the UK and Ireland, and Australia and New Zealand on November 3rd and 4th. Given how long films usually remain in cinemas, it’s unlikely that One Piece Film: Red’s theatre showings will be completed by 2023. After the box office is completed comes DVD sales, something which is traditionally seen as important for Japanese anime studios. Crunchyroll allowed a few months after the DVD of Demon Slayer: Mugen Train was released before putting that movie on its service. However, that changed a bit with Jujutsu Kaisen 0, whose DVD was released broadly in line with the movie arriving on Crunchyroll. There is no official confirmation regarding when One Piece Film: Red will be released on DVD or Blu-ray, but it’s usually 6-9 months after the film is first released in Japan. If the same applies to One Piece Film: Red, that would equate to sometime between February and May. With the above in mind, we could speculatively expect to see One Piece Film: Red appear on Crunchyroll at some time in the spring of 2023. Of course, this is just an estimate – again, nothing has been officially confirmed by Crunchyroll nor the producers of One Piece Film: Red.
