The film tells the story of a young girl named Nemo (played by Marlow Barkley) and a horned half-human creature named Flip (played by Jason Momoa, famous for his roles in The Game of Thrones, Aquaman, and Dune) who guides her through Slumberland in hopes of finding her long lost father. Many interesting characters in the comic have been adapted into the movie, but we are still not sure if all of the important characters are part of the plot. One of the most memorable characters in the Slumberland comic strip series is Morpheus. Morpheus appears in many fantasy shows and stories, but who is he in Slumberland?

Who is Morpheus in Slumberland?

In McCay’s world, Morpheus is the King of Slumberland. He is depicted as a big, bald man with a white mustache and a long white beard. He wears a long royal robe, ermine fur trim, brown gladiator sandals, and golden armbands. A green laurel wreath crown sits on his head. As king, he sits on a golden throne, which is where he rules his subjects. He is also sometimes depicted as holding a royal scepter, which has the power to ward off the evils of the Nightmare King. Morpheus is a serious and beloved king who protects his people, but this commitment, and his seemingly elder appearance, do not stop him from letting out his inner child. He enjoys spending time with his daughter and his chosen successor, Nemo.

In What Other Shows Do We See Morpheus?

As the King of Dreams, Morpheus has appeared in several shows and stories where he plays an important part. One of the most recent shows focusing on Morpheus’ life and powers is Netflix’s adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman. In the series, we follow Morpheus, also known as Dream, the King of his realm, as he overcomes challenges to put his kingdom back together after being trapped for many years.
