And over the weekend, Disney gave an update on the production status of the Percy Jackson TV show. These are all the details pertaining to the show at this time:
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Release Date
In June 2022, Disney announced that production for Percy Jackson and the Olympians has officially started.
But unfortunately, there is no update yet on when we can expect a release date for the Percy Jackson TV series. According to the author, the show will likely get a release date in early 2024. Since production is currently underway, we can expect the show to get released soon. Riordan gave an update on the release date on his website: “Previously, I have said that my own personal best guess was sometime in 2023. I also warned you that this could definitely change. Now that I have a somewhat better understanding of the work involved, here’s what I am estimating: It’s probably going to take us through December or into January to film all the episodes of season one, which is roughly one month of filming per episode (eight episodes total)… That means post-production will begin in early 2023, when the pieces are fitted together, edited and augmented with all the special effects and sound. This process also takes months and months. Given all this, I think the most likely air date will probably be early 2024. Again, that’s just me guessing. The actual release dates are determined by the studio and the streaming service, and have to take in hundreds of other factors like the release schedule for all Disney+ shows, timing for publicity, etc.”
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Story: What Is It About?
Considering the fact that Rick Riordan is active with the scriptwriting of the live-action adaptation of Percy Jackson and the Olympians, we can expect the story to stay faithful to the book series. In a now-deleted tweet, Riordan revealed in January 2022 that the live-action adaptation will follow “Lightning Thief faithfully although we’re adding alot of interesting nuances, depth, Easter eggs & backstory that will keep the story fresh & fun even if you know the books inside & out.”
This means that the series will likely follow the format of the book, which tells the story of a 12-year-old demi-god named Percy Jackson. He discovers that he is the son of Poseidon, god of the sea, with a mortal mother. This leads him to Camp Half-Blood, where he meets his friends, Annabeth and Grover. The trio go on an adventure to fight Kronos and save the world. The first book will center on Percy’s journey in retrieving Zeus’ lightning bolt, which was previously stolen. He is also accused of stealing the lightning bolt. It is up to him and his friends to retrieve the master lightning bolt and restore Olympus’ order.
Percy Jackson and the Olympians Cast
In May 2022, Riordan revealed the cast for the main characters of the TV series. The main character in the show, Percy Jackson, will be portrayed by Walker Scobell, who is famous for his role as the younger Adam in Netflix’s The Adam Project.
The other cast members include:
