A report from the Heavy Spoilers YouTube channel (via The Direct) has claimed that Marvel Studios prevented Sony from having Tom Holland show up for a cameo appearance in Venom which resulted in them pulling the plug on the idea. They also noted that one of the stipulations during the new Spider-Man deal that Marvel and Sony signed back in 2019 was for the franchises to connect to the MCU. It also explains why they were able to tease the Venom symbiote’s arrival in the MCU during the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home.
Despite Holland’s absence in the first Venom film, he was still able to show up through archive footage during the post-credits scene of Venom: Let There Be Carnage where they transported Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock into the MCU and showed a news clip of the events that happened at the very end of Spider-Man: Far from Home. Right now, the future of Spider-Man in the MCU has been a subject of speculation and some are confused about whether the character will eventually be used in Sony’s universe which was hinted at by the post-credits scene of Morbius where they seemingly set up the Sinister Six. There are recent reports that have claimed that Holland has already signed a new deal to continue playing the role of Spider-Man in the MCU although it hasn’t been confirmed yet. We should be able to find out more official news and updates about the Spider-Man situation soon enough.
