Now, it looks like a key character from the Batman comics is set to be part of the series as The Illuminerdi is reporting that they are currently casting a male actor in his 60s to play Salvatore Maroni, the head of the Maroni crime organization in Gotham City and has a rivalry with the Falcones. We do have to take note that the report has not been confirmed by either HBO Max or reported by the major trades yet so we may have to take this news with a grain of salt. However, the outlet has reported a lot of accurate scoops in the past so there is a likelihood that it could be true. Salvatore Maroni has been a staple character in the Batman comics for decades, particularly in storylines that feature the Gotham criminal underworld. He has also been portrayed in live-action before in The Dark Knight, Batman Forever, and Gotham.

The character also made an appearance in The Batman although he was played by an uncredited extra. The report suggested that he has a more expanded role in the series since he will be involved in a storyline where he was subject to a drug raid by the GCPD that was set up by Falcone. Since the series is going to tackle the criminal underworld of Gotham City, it is not surprising to hear that they will be featuring Salvatore Maroni and, if the information ends up true, it is interesting to see how he’ll play out in Oswald Cobblepot’s rising career in the rankings of the criminal underworld. Lauren LeFranc (Agents of SHIELD) is serving as the showrunner of the series. She will also executive produce alongside Farrell, The Batman director Matt Reeves, Dylan Clark, Daniel Pipski, Adam Kassan, and Rafi Crohn. Craig Zobel is directing the first two episodes of the series. Cristin Milioti also co-stars.
