In an interview with Time Magazine, Ismael Cruz Cordóva who plays Arondir, a newly-introduced elf in The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power, the actor revealed that from the audition, they were kept in the dark. That’s how secretive the production was.
Ismael Cruz Cordóva even shared that he didn’t know what role he was auditioning for, and there was just a description of it being an “Aragorn-type man.” After being rejected, he tried again but when he got cast, he said it was even in a “secret code” email.
Cordóva, however, learned his role when he arrived in New Zealand, “They flew me out to New Zealand, and the night before my final read, they told me, ‘Actually, you’re playing an elf. It started to make sense because I was like, ‘Why does this man love trees so much?’”
That was when Cordóva and his childhood dream sparked and reignited, “I didn’t see myself represented. And when I said, ‘I want to be an elf,’ people said, ‘Elves don’t look like you. When I heard about the character on the show, it felt like a mission.”
Morfydd Clark added in the same interview, “Lots of people guessed. Because when you’re moving to New Zealand, and your phone dial is suddenly different …”
That was when people close to the cast knew and the news on it, of course, spread like wildfire. Truly, some secrets can never be kept too long.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power will follow Sauron during the Second Age of Middle Earth where he was sought to corrupt the Elves by pretending to be the Lord of Gifts, Annatar, and he instructs particular Elven smiths to craft Rings, forging nineteen.
One Ring was made in secrecy as Sauron went to Mount Doom and he wanted to bind the elves. Those who has the Three felt it when Sauron wore it and they hid theirs, causing a search that would lead to The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
