Now, Deadline has reported that The Walking Dead star Jeffrey Dean Morgan has joined the fourth season of The Boys for a recurring role. However, the details regarding his character are being kept under wraps. His casting also serves as his reunion with showrunner Eric Kripke, who he previously worked with on Supernatural where he played John Winchester.
There were previous reports that the show was planning to bring Morgan during the third season. However, due to COVID-19-related production complications, it didn’t come to fruition. However, the season did bring another Supernatural actor: Jensen Ackles, who played Soldier Boy.
Shortly after the casting was announced, Morgan took to Twitter and shared his excitement about being involved in the show. He also thanked Kripke and the team behind The Walking Dead for finding a way to figure out his schedule to do both shows.
During an interview with E! News a few weeks ago, Kripke already hinted about the possibility of Morgan’s involvement in the fourth season when he revealed that he was already talking with the actor about being potentially involved in the season and figuring out how they will be able to work it out.
“Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a superfan of the show, so he and I are talking. We’re trying to figure out something for season four,” Kripke said during that time. “Nothing finalized yet, but he and I are chatting and e-mailing and seeing it we can make it work with his busy schedule. So, stay tuned on that.”
It is exciting to see that Morgan has finally joined the series after previous attempts to have him be involved in some capacity and it looks like they were able to finally figure out how he can join The Boys universe. It’s interesting to see what kind of role they have in store for him and how he’ll play into the story of the season.
