Deadline has reported that Reeves and his 6th & Idaho production company have signed a multi-year first-look overall film deal with Warner Bros. Pictures Group as well as renewed his television deal with Warner Bros. Television Group where he is developing The Penguin spinoff series.
Reeves previously had a film deal with Netflix prior to signing with Warner Bros. He is the first filmmaker that signed an overall deal with the studio under the new management of Warner Bros. Discovery. The deal also comes after the huge success that he brought for them with The Batman earlier this year.
“Making this legendary studio my home is a dream,” Reeves said in a statement. “I am so excited to be working with Mike [De Luca], Pam [Abdy], and Channing [Dungey] and our teams to bring captivating stories I am truly passionate about to the big and small screen.”
The new film deal between Reeves and Warner Bros. is an indication that the filmmaker’s The Batman universe will continue to expand under the new management of Warner Bros. Discovery, which has been axing some of the DC projects in the past few weeks and revealed that they’re implementing a new ten-year plan to reshape the DC franchise.
Reeves is currently working on a sequel to The Batman that he is co-writing with Mattson Tomlin. The studio is expected to greenlight the project once the script is ready. Robert Pattinson is also confirmed to return as the Caped Crusader amidst speculations on his future in the franchise.
This news is exciting for fans who are looking forward to the sequels and spinoffs of The Batman since it is a sign that Reeves is now focusing on expanding the franchise for the next few years and it solidified the status of The Batman universe as part of the new Warner Bros.’ DC franchise.
