In a recent interview with Collider, Jacob Batalon, who plays Ned Leeds in the MCU’s Spider-Man trilogy, was asked about the possibility of returning in a potential fourth Spider-Man film. While he is open to play his role again, he currently feels doubtful about it. “I feel like actors are the last people to know. I think that people assume that actors are always hiding secrets. I promise you, we don’t know anything,” he said. “But again, if it’s the right place, at the right time, with the right group of people that we’ve been with, I would say, why not? But other than that, whatever happens, happens. Really, those decisions are up to the big bosses, the people who sign the checks. We’re open to the idea, but we’re not hoping for it.”
The actor added, “Honestly, I don’t really put too much thought into that. I feel like we’re all really moving in ways where we’re not really hoping for it to happen. Not that it’s bad, I just feel like we’re not really anticipating another movie. I just feel like we’re all doing our own thing. But again, whatever happens, happens.” Considering that the future of Spider-Man in the MCU is still uncertain almost a year after No Way Home was released, it’s not surprising to hear that Batalon is currently “not hoping” for it although, with the success that the films received, it will also be shocking if Sony and Marvel doesn’t decide to continue it. It is very likely that it will take a longer time before we find out Sony and Marvel’s official plans on the next step that they’re going to proceed with the Spider-Man characters in the MCU. For now, all we can do is wait and speculate.
