According to Deadline, Sony has delayed the release of Madame Web from July 7, 2023 to its new date October 6, 2023. As a result, the film will now have a similar release date as the first two Venom films which were both released during the first weekend of October.
In addition, the studio has also moved the release date of their untitled Marvel film from October 6, 2023 to June 7, 2024. It is unknown yet what project it is, but there have been speculations that it could be either the third Venom film, the rumored Spider-Woman film directed by Olivia Wilde, or the fourth Spider-Man film starring Tom Holland.
Madame Web is described as an “origin story of the clairvoyant, whose psychic abilities allow her to see within the spider world.” It stars Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, Tahar Rahim, Emma Roberts, Mike Epps, and Adam Scott. S.J. Clarkson is directing the film while Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless wrote the screenplay.
The studio has also announced the release date for their other films such as The Pope’s Exorcist (April 7, 2023), the fifth Insidious film (July 7, 2023), A Man Called Otto (December 14, 2022), the untitled George Foreman biopic (March 31, 2023), and 65 (April 28, 2023).
While release date delay news is always disappointing to hear, in the case of Madame Web, it looks like we only need to add an extra few months of waiting and it will give the filmmakers more time to finish the film and make it the best version that they can. Hopefully, that will be the last time that we will hear any news regarding the delay.
