Jon Kasdan is currently promoting his new Disney+ series Willow and he spoke to The Hollywood Reporter with some ideas for Star Wars. The scribe admitted that he wants to talk to Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy about working on a Star Wars “special feature” or two. “I’m always afraid to ask Kathy because she can see right through me. She can see my desire to tell more stories there,” Kasdan said. He then added that a recent Marvel release on Disney+ has inspired him.
“In recent months, I have been intrigued by the wonderful Werewolf by Night as a potential form of storytelling,” Kasdan said. “So I would love to see Lucasfilm embrace a short-form novella version for telling some of their stories. That certainly seems like a place where future stories about those characters could live.” It’s certainly an excellent idea and one that might work for Kasdan is the possible sequel to Solo. The screenwriter had been very vocal about his desire to work on Solo 2 and although it is unlikely that a full feature is happening in the future, a follow-up to young Han Solo’s story could see its future as a Star Wars special feature. For now, it is still unclear if Lucasfilm is considering one-off special features for Star Wars. Still, there is a chance that we will get an update about this in the next few months. Stay tuned for more updates on this story. Jon Kasdan’s latest project Willow is a series sequel to the original 1988 film directed by Ron Howard. The show is currently streaming on Disney+.
