Just after the first trailer was unveiled at the D23 Expo, Rick Riordan shares his stamp of approval on the upcoming Disney Plus show Percy Jackson and the Olympians bringing into life his best-selling young adult novel series. Speaking with FlipGeeks, Rick Riordan opens up about the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series and he shares his confidence on the show, “I think I’m lucky I have Percy Jackson with Disney+ as a TV show. It’s the right format to tell a novel in an entire season with the right number of episodes.” Riordan added, “We can do justice to this story, which I think is what my readers have been waiting for for all these years. It’s finally here.” With eight episodes lined up for the first season, Percy Jackson and the Olympians is set to tell the events of The Lightning Thief, the first book out of five, following the titular half-blood as he discovers his lineage and abilities.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians follows Percy Jackson, a 12-year-old demigod and son of Poseidon who just learned the truth about his father and the dangers that it will bring into his life and the people he loves. In The Lightning Thief, Zeus accused Percy of stealing his lightning bolt. Walker Scobell enters Camp Half-Blood as Percy Jackson and he will be joined by Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth Chase, Aryan Simhadri as Grover Underwood, Glynn Turman as Chiron/ Mr. Brunner, Dior Goodjohn as Clarisse La Rue, and Charlie Bushnell as Luke Castellan. Also joining the cast of Percy Jackson and the Olympians are Virginia Kull as Sally Jackson, Percy’s mother, Jason Mantzoukas as Mr. D/ Dionysus, Megan Mullally as Ms. Dodds/ Alecto, Timm Sharp as Gabe Ugliano, the stepfather of Percy, and Olivea Morton as Nancy Bobofit. Rick Riordan has been hands-on on Percy Jackson and the Olympians as an executive producer where he will also pen the pilot episode alongside Jonathan E. Steinberg and with James Bobin directing. Percy Jackson and the Olympians has no release date yet but it is expected to arrive in 2024.
