Recently, the series’ official Twitter account and website revealed that a special live broadcast will be held tomorrow, September 24, 2022.
In case you’re unfamiliar, Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai (Seishun Buta Yaro in Japanese) is an anime series by CloverWorks that’s based on the light novel series of the same name by Hajime Kamoshida. The light novel series began with the publication of the first volume back in April 2014. Since then, the series has released 10 more volumes, with the latest being Volume 11, which was released in Japan back in December 2020. Meanwhile, the anime series adaptation aired from October to December 2018, and it adapted the first five light novel volumes. The TV anime was followed up by an anime movie entitled Rascal Does Not Dream of a Dreaming Girl. The movie was released in Japanese cinemas on June 15, 2019, and it is an adaptation of the light novel series’ sixth volume.
Rascal’s story follows Sakuta Azusagawa, a high school student who encounters teenage actress Mai Sakurajima in the library while dressed in a bunny girl outfit. Despite her dress, Mai is not noticed by anyone else aside from Sakuta. Sakuta calls this phenomenon “Adolescence Syndrome" and he decides to help Mai get noticed by people again. Following this chance encounter, Sakuta soon meets other girls suffering from “Adolescence Syndrome” but with different manifestations.
While there’s no word yet on what exactly will be announced, there is already speculation from fans online about how it will be a Season 2 announcement. This speculation is based on how there is enough source material for a new season. Right now, the light novel series has 11 volumes published. Given that the first season adapted the first five volumes and the movie adapted the sixth, Volumes 7 to 11 should be enough for a 1-cour anime. We’ll find out if Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai does indeed get a Season 2 announcement when the upcoming broadcast goes live tomorrow, September 24, at 8 PM JST. The program will be streamed live on the show’s official website.
