Psycho-Pass: What Is the Anime About?
Psycho-Pass adapts the manga Inspector Akane Tsunemori. It’s a sci-fi anime that explores justice enforcement, issues of privacy and personal data, and crime in a futuristic world. In 22th-century Japan, the mental state of all citizens is carefully examined through a technology known as Sybil System to determine their predilection for crime, known as their Psycho-Pass. Everyone who is considered even mildly dangerous is violently subjugated and even killed by Inspectors who will do anything to uphold law enforcement, while Enforcers - citizens who have shown a suspicious Psycho-Pass are asked to do the Inspector’s dirty work for the right to enjoy a relatively free life. Akane Tsunemori is a young woman with a passion for justice. When she works alongside Enforcer Shinya Kougami, however, Akane has to re-evaluate many of her ideas about law enforcement, as she finds out the Sibyl system might not be so perfect after all. And how can a potentially corrupt system measure others for corruption?
