Specifically, it was revealed by Oda in a recent commentary of One Piece Film: Red that Uta appeared in a recent manga chapter. While it’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, this does pretty much confirm Uta’s canon status.
One Piece: Is Uta Canon?
Uta is one of the principal characters in the latest One Piece film, and in the series’ world, she is the most popular singer. The film follows the Straw Hat Crew as they attend Uta’s concert. During the concert, Luffy reveals that Uta is a friend of his from his childhood as she is the daughter of the legendary pirate, Red-Haired Shanks. Because she’s the daughter of an Emperor, Uta is the target of many other pirates. Thus begins the events of One Piece Film: Red. Typically, One Piece movies are not canon, though there are some exceptions. While the stories of all movies aren’t canon, there are characters that are confirmed to be canon – such as Uta. Before the film’s release in Japanese cinemas, it was confirmed that Uta is the first canon movie character in the series in 13 years. This means Uta is an official character in the One Piece manga. As for the film’s events, they’re not exactly canon. Essentially, you can think of Uta being canon, but the events in the film aren’t. The canon status of the film’s details is also a bit fuzzy as with most other films in the franchise. YOU MIGHT LIKE: Is One Piece Film: Red Canon?
