Previously, Neil Gaiman did not encourage the idea of fans wanting for a season 2 for Good Omens since he believed the story to have already come to a close. However, due to popular demand, the show is coming back with its favorite angel-demon duo, Aziraphale (played by Michael Sheen) and Crowley (played by David Tennant).
At the NYCC, Gaiman explains what’s in store for the series this coming season:
Gaiman added that he didn’t want to leave any of the main cast members, so he wrote new parts for the majority, including new demon Shax. There will be a new Beelzebub actor who ‘killed it in auditions’ and ‘demanded a lot more flies.’ And a new addition, Muriel the angel (played by Quelin Sepulveda), and Maggie Service’s character who runs a bookshop, right across the coffee shop of another new character which will be played by Nina Sosyana.
While still on stage, a surprise video call with Michael Sheen, David Tennant, and John Hamm was displayed, making their appearance also in support of their upcoming comeback. Sheen noted that not having his character, Aziraphale, in Good Omens 2 would have made him ‘very upset’, even joking that Tennant tried his best to frustrate Sheen as the two have grown closer after ending their time on set in season 1. Good Omens was released in May 2019 on Prime Video, also featuring six episodes. The series was adapted from Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s novel sharing the same name. Good Omens is a ‘comedy about the birth of the son of Satan and the coming of the End Times’, centering around the unlikely duo of an angel named Aziraphale and his centuries-old friendship with the demon Crowley.
