Given the tremendous number of fans around the world, it’s not surprising to see how these fandoms have pitted the two fantasy shows against each other. Although both shows received splendid reviews from critics, the viewership record seemingly dictates which prequel stands out. According to a new data report by Samba TV, House of the Dragon appears to be a frontrunner in the fantasy category, with a total of 4.8 million in United States households, easily beating The Rings of Power’s 1.8 million viewership record. The Rings of Power is currently facing a massive backlash which might be one of the reasons why the show struggled in terms of viewership. Just recently, Elon Musk made a very harsh comment about the show, with Neil Gaiman boldly defending the series with a cheeky response. For House of the Dragon’s side of things, Episodes 1 and 2 reached an impressive 10 million viewership record, which resulted in the show being renewed for Season 2. House of the Dragon is available to stream on HBO Max. Meanwhile, Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is streaming on Prime Video.
