More Than a Married Couple, But Not Lovers Episode 2 Recap
The episode opened with Jirou dreaming about having a tender moment with Shiori, but he awoke after hearing a knock on the door. Akari had been the one knocking, and as soon as Jirou opened the door, she hugged him. Jirou was taken aback. Akari asked him if he could stay with her for the night. As it turns out, Akari got scared while watching a horror movie. Jirou asked if she really wanted to watch a scary movie. Akari explained that she was doing it so that they can reach A-rank. She added that Natsumi told her that if a couple can watch horror movies together, they can score a lot of points. However, Jirou was not sold on the idea, to which Akari responded that they can overcome the fear together and earn more points. She reminded him that their ultimate goal is to swap partners. Jirou gave in and was ready to be part of the plan. To make things more interesting, Akari suggested they wear matching pajamas to up the cuteness level. Jirou was apprehensive, but Akari pointed out that it was something that married couples do, and apparently, they can earn points by merely twinning. He thought she was going overboard, but that was something they needed to do in order to get into the A-rank pool. Jirou was lost in his thoughts when Akari asked him to turn around because she wanted to change. He freaked out because she was about to change in front of him. Suddenly, there was a power cut in the area. At that moment, Akari hugged Jirou. He could see that they were earning more points because they shared a romantic moment together. Since there was no power, they could not get back into their bedrooms and were left with no choice but to sleep together in the living room. Later, Akari lit a flameless aromatherapy candle that she got from Natsumi. As the aroma filled the dimly lit room, Jirou embraced Akari and told her that she was cute. He immediately realized and wondered if Akari heard him. When he checked on her, she was already asleep. Jirou admired Akari, who looked cute while sleeping. The next day, the students lined up to check their rankings. Akari and Jirou were in the 12th position with 15 points. Moreover, they were in the B-rank pool. Sadaharu praised Jirou for living as a B-ranked couple with Akari. However, the shocker came when Akari and Jirou found out that Minami and Shiori were an E-ranked couple. Jirou was worried about Shiori, but he could not ask her anything directly. Despite all the worrying, he was a little happy that things weren’t working out as well between Shiori and Minami. There was still a catch though because if Shiori and Minami aren’t an A-ranked couple as well, all their efforts will be wasted. Elsewhere, Shiori confessed that her married life was not going great because of her own fault. She explained that she is not good with people she doesn’t know. Meanwhile, Jirou was at home resting as he was sick while Akari was out with her friends. He wondered: if Shiori was his wife, would she be kind enough to take care of him? He was expecting Akari would come home early and take care of him. Suddenly, the doorbell rang and Jirou was slightly happy because he was expecting Akari on the other side. To his surprise, it was Shiori, who came to check on him. In the meantime, Akari was at a café with her friends. Although she was supposed to be having a great time, all she could think about was the time she spent with Jirou. Back at the apartment, Jirou thanked Shiori for coming over. Shiori revealed that it was Akari who asked her to look after Jirou as she was busy with something. Jirou was delighted that Akari asked Shiori to come over. A flashback scene showed how Jirou wanted to confess his feelings, but he chickened out. Back in the present, Jirou was happy to eat the rice porridge Shiori made for him. He believed it was the best thing he tasted in his entire life. Eventually, they started talking about the ongoing married course. Jirou remarked that it must be nice to be with Minami. Shiori told him that they take turns cooking. Jirou sighed because he was a disaster in the kitchen. Shiori asked if everything was going well between him and Akari. Jirou mentioned Shiori and Minami’s ranking and wondered if he can do anything to help them get more points. She confessed that she doesn’t feel comfortable around boys but she is trying her best. However, she mentioned that because she felt uncomfortable, she distanced herself from them. Shiori jokingly said that it would have been better if Jirou was her husband. She immediately changed the topic but Jirou tried to hype her up. Jirou said that he can vouch for all her good points. Later, Akari returned home and Shiori left. Toward the end, Jirou told Akari that he will do his best to be the best husband to her. He added that he will do more to help her out so that she can be with Minami, but for some reason, Akari got annoyed by it.
