The Batgirl film was set to help add new storylines to DC’s upcoming Multiversal storyline within the DCEU, but even with the film near completion, Warner Bros. decided to cancel the project. The merger between Warner Bros. and Discovery is seemingly the reason why a lot of drastic changes on how DC’s biggest heroes are going to be used, but with Batgirl now canceled, it led to a lot of public criticism for the company.

The president of DC Films, Walter Hamada, was outraged over the decision and almost left his position. Even Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige shared his sympathies with the directors of the film, Bilall Fallah and Adil El Arbi, who are also the directors for the MCU’s Ms. Marvel. Now, one of the MCU Phase 4’s major stars throws shade at the news of the Batgirl cancelation.

MCU actor Simu Liu took to Twitter to hilariously throw shade at Warner Bros. for deciding to cancel the release of Batgirl.

Simu Liu joked about a hypothetical situation where Marvel Studios canceled a Shang-Chi Holiday Special “due to quality concerns” after the filming has already been completed, dissing Warner Bros. for doing that to the Batgirl film.

While some fans took Simu Liu’s post as a joke, other people saw it as a low blow. You can check out other people’s reactions to Simu Liu’s shade over the Batgirl cancelation below.

In spite of the criticism, actor/producer Wilson Cleveland responded to the fans and made it clear that Liu was only “dragging…WB’s decision” and that he likely agrees with most of the people who were outraged with his initial Tweet.

“People. Simu is dragging the ridiculousness of WB’s decision to cancel a $90 million movie. He’s not dragging the cast, crew or fans. I get there’s valid outrage but you’re directing it at someone who likely agrees with you.”
