Reporter Jeff Sneider recently revealed via The Hot Mic podcast that Marvel Studios is looking to recast the General Thaddeus Ross role in Thunderbolts with Harrison Ford as their top choice to play the character. However, he stated that he is unsure whether the Star Wars actor has passed on the project or is still in negotiations. This is certainly a sign that Marvel still has plans to continue the character in future projects despite Hurt’s death earlier this year and he is going to be a major player in the film besides the team. This wouldn’t be the first time that the studio has dealt with recasting in an MCU project.
So far, the titular team in the film includes Bucky Barnes, Yelena Belova, Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, Ghost, U.S. Agent, Red Guardian, and Taskmaster. The members were announced back in D23 ahead of its production start next year. It is interesting to hear that General Ross will still have a pivotal role. Ford is also a wonderful choice to possibly take over the role if ever he does end up getting cast. This could also be an indication, as some fans speculated, that the character might become the Red Hulk just like in the comics. Let’s just wait and see whether the recast or Ford’s involvement will end up happening. Sebastian Stan, Florence Pugh, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Hannah John-Kamen, Wyatt Russell, David Harbour, and Olga Kurylenko are confirmed to star in the film. Jake Schreier is directing while Black Widow writer Eric Pearson is penning the screenplay.
