Kaguya-sama: Love Is War Chapter 279 Recap
Chika Fujiwara is one of the most iconic anime girls, and this chapter was for her. In her last chapter, Chika Fujiwara informs Kaguya that she has been asked out on a date. Kaguya has been used to driving off those who aspire to date her best friend, but, this time, Chika seems keen on giving dating a try. She has been asked out by a famous musician who would love to consider a long-term relationship and even take her to Vienna with him. All sounds too good to be true, but something feels off the more we read. Chika’s description of her potential date is a bit too clinical and she doesn’t seem truly enthusiastic. Rather, she seems to be considering the offer only because of how good it subjectively looks. Eventually, Chika challenges Kaguya to tell her that she loves her and wants her not to go on that date, which Kaguya ends up doing. Too easily persuaded, Chika cancels the date, making us think that she was simply seeking an excuse to stay home; a feeling many who have at some point looked for “the one” might recognize. Chika mentions that she longs for a slow-burn romance, as everything about the date she just canceled seemed a bit too sudden. The narrator goes on to say that Fujiwara’s understanding of love transcends gender, perhaps finally confirming what many fans long suspected; that Chika is queer. The latest chapter didn’t do very much to change Chika’s story or even take it in a new direction, but perhaps that’s for the best. It’s simply great to have an LGBTQIA+ character that gives people so much joy, and knows that she’ll continue to be amazing, no matter where her story takes her. The Kaguya-sama: Love Is War manga ending has been announced, so we only have very few chapters left to go! READ MORE: LGBTQ Anime on Netflix
