Now, it looks like the popstar’s casting will also lead to a bigger role for her in the sequel according to a rumor from The Weekly Planet podcast (via The Direct). In their latest episode, host James Clement claimed that the film will focus more on Harley Quinn’s perspective and he also shared the reason why it is going to be a musical. “Apparently, Joker 2 isn’t so much a Joker movie, it’s a Harley Quinn… It’s from Harley Quinn’s perspective,” the host said. “And the reason it’s a musical is because that’s how she perceives her relationship with Joker.” When co-host Chip Mason asked if the film is going to be “like a romantic musical,” Clement responded with a resounding, “Exactly.”
For now, we have to take this information with a grain of salt since none of the people involved in the making of the film has confirmed this rumor. However, considering the previous multiple reports that it’s going to be a musical, there is the likelihood that the scoop might be true. Assuming that the film is indeed going to be a musical from Harley’s perspective, it is an interesting and unique direction for the sequel since it will be a very different take on the Harley-Joker relationship that has been depicted on the screen for many years. With the casting of Gaga as Harley, it does open a lot of possibilities regarding the musical elements of the sequel and it also makes sense if they go with her perspective in order to fully explore the “romantic musical” way of telling the story. If ever they actually end up with this direction, it is curious to see what the final results will look like.
