Of course, the first question that comes to people’s minds is: is Superman and Lois Season 3 coming out in July 2022? Unfortunately, there’s still no word on when the show will be released. Since The CW network is currently being sold, many can’t help but wonder what will happen with the Superman and Lois series and whether or not the sale could affect the decision to renew for a third season. Some rumors say that the show could end up airing on HBO Max if the sale pushes through. Here’s what we know about the show right now:
Is Superman and Lois Season 3 Cancelled?
With the imminent sale of the network, many fans can’t help but ask whether Superman and Lois has been canceled. Back in March, The CW canceled several of its shows. Only seven shows got greenlit for a new season: Riverdale, Kung Fu, Nancy Drew, Walker, All American, The Flash, and Superman and Lois. The CW CEO Mark Pedowitz said in a statement: “As we prepare for the 2022-23 season, these scripted series, along with the alternative series we renewed earlier, will serve as the start of a solid foundation utilizing some of our most-watched series for us to build on for next year and beyond.” When the renewal announcement was made, Tyler Hoechlin (as Clark Kent/Superman) celebrated with his fans via an Instagram Story: “Season 3 is official! Thanks to everyone who works so hard to make this show. Can’t wait to run it back!”
When is Superman and Lois Season 3 Release Date?
Considering the show just wrapped up the second season by the end of June 2022, it could be a while before Superman and Lois returns to our TV screens. The action-packed finale of the previous season definitely got fans all excited, especially with a major villain introduced. But it could be a while before we get a glimpse of Season 3. Elizabeth Tulloch (as Lois Lane) accidentally told Entertainment Tonight about the show “getting a very cool villain” in Season 3. The CW has confirmed that we could start seeing new episodes from Superman and Lois Season 3 at some time in 2023. Since the two previous seasons aired in January and February, it’s possible that a similar timeline could be followed for the release of the third season.
Superman and Lois Season 3 Plot Speculations
As of this writing, we don’t know much about what the showrunners have in mind for Superman and Lois Season 3. But it will likely pick up where it left of in Season 2, which was a chaotic mix between Earth and the Bizarro World. TVLine reported last month that the premiere episode of Season 3 will be directed by Arrowverse’s Tom Cavanagh. While there are reports of a new villain joining the season, there are other parts of the series that we can expect to take place. For one, it’s possible that Jordan (played by Alexander Garfin) and Sarah (played by Inde Navarrette) will not be together in Season 3. Showrunner Todd Helbing explained to DC Comics: “It’s like a lot of teenage relationships – you sort of go in and out. There are times you’re really intense and then times when things sort of fizzle out. I think Jordan will always love Sarah, and I think Sarah will have a special place in her heart for Jordan. But right now, moving forward, they’re probably not going to be together. We’ll see if they get back together or not eventually, but for now, probably not.” But one thing’s for sure, the new villain will be bringing lots of obstacles for the Lane family in the next season.
Superman and Lois Season 3 Cast: Who’ll be Back?
As of this writing, Superman and Lois Season 3 cast details have not yet been revealed. But it’s likely that the main stars will be reprising their roles:
Tyler Hoechlin (as Clark Kent/Superman)Elizabeth Tulloch (as Lois Lane)Jordan Elsass (as Jonathan Kent)Alexander Garfin (as Jordan Kent)Erik Valdez (as Kyle Cushing)Inde Navarrette (as Sarah Cushing)Wolé Parks (as John Henry Irons)Sofia Hasmik (as Chrissy Beppo)Tayler Buck (as Natalie Irons)Dylan Walsh (as Ret. General Sam Lane)Emmanuelle Chriqui (as Lana Lang Cushing)
A new villain was teased at the end of Season 2, which could likely be the main antagonist in the third season. The scene captured John Diggle (played by David Ramsey) handing a folder to John Henry Irons (played by Wolé Parks). The folder consisted files about notorious criminal, Bruno Mannheim, which could likely be the villain in the next season. Speaking to Den of Geek, Helbing said: “Every year, at some point, I talk to DC, and there’s a deck that’s created that tells us which are the characters that we can explore. I put in requests [and] there are roads that I can go down, sometimes fully, sometimes half, sometimes not at all. If it’s not at all, then we just come up with a different version of it. Bruno is going to be a huge part of season 3 and is going to be huge impact on multiple characters. And if you watch season 1 and season 2… there are a lot of pieces in place that could take us to a certain spot.” Right now, there’s no word on who will portray the role.
