Despite the success of these shows, Marvel and Netflix’s relationship worsened, and within just a few months, Netflix cancelled each of its Marvel shows including the series that started it all with the cancellation of Daredevil in 2018 following the release of its third season. Star Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Wilson Fisk/Kingpin in the show, revealed the reason why the Daredevil was cancelled on Netflix.

What are the updates for Daredevil: Born Again?

In October 2021, a rumor surfaced online suggesting Marvel Studios and Disney Plus were looking to revive Daredevil series beginning with their characters returning in the upcoming Disney Plus original series Echo. The rumor stated that Disney Plus was planning to bring back several Marvel characters from Netflix’s Daredevil series as a way to reintroduce them into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to the rumor, Marvel Studios are working on a Daredevil project led by Charlie Cox, and it’s expected to be Daredevil Season 4. In March 2022, Murphy’s Multiverse reported that a new production LLC (limited liability company) was formed less than two weeks ago titled “Blind Faith Productions LLC,” likely to belong to Marvel Studios, which is a sly reference to Murdock’s Catholicism and his literal blindness. In response to this report, Geeks Worldwide’s KC Walsh seemingly confirmed that it’s indeed a Daredevil project and that it would start filming later this year. A recent issue of Production Weekly showed a listing for a “Daredevil Reboot”, claiming Kevin Feige and Chris Gray as the show’s producers. Gray, who served as an associate producer for The Perks of Being a Wallflower, recently served as producer on Marvel’s Behind the Mask, a docuseries created for Disney+ Furthermore, former GWW Editor-in-chief KC Walsh has reported the series will either begin filming by the end of the year, or at sometime in 2023. Disney+ already confirmed that both Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio will reprise their roles in Marvel’s Echo series. In the finale of Marvel’s She Hulk, Charlie Cox made his first in-costume MCU appearance as Daredevil.

Is Daredevil: Born Again coming in 2022?

No, Marvel Studios and Disney haven’t announced any plans to release a new season of Daredevil on Disney+ this year, but on May 19, 2022, a new Daredevil TV series is confirmed to be in development with Matt Corman and Chris Ord attached to write and executive produce it, Variety reports. Corman and Ord most famously co-created the USA Network show Cover Affairs, which aired for five seasons between 2010 and 2014. Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio are set to reprise their roles as Matt Murdock/Daredevil and Wilson Fisk/Kingpin in the upcoming Daredevil season after they return in Marvel’s Echo. At Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con 2022 panel, Kevin Feige officially announced Daredevil: Born Again, which is set to release with 18 new episodes on Disney+ in Spring 2024. For now, you can check out the list of upcoming Disney+ movies and TV shows for October 2022. In February 2022, Cox talked about his involvement with Spider-Man: No Way Home during his interview with HeyUGuys, and it was there, the 39-year-old English actor shared a story about an encounter he had in late 2019 with Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige. It turns out that the two met on Broadway one night, and according to Cox, Feige didn’t bring up Daredevil once. “I did a play in 2019 with Tom Hiddleston and Kevin Feige came to see our play,” Cox said “And, Y’know, I went and shook hands with him and said hi and he said how much he enjoyed the play. Never mentioned Daredevil or anything like that. So it turns out he’s a very good liar as well.” Many fans still consider Netflix’s Daredevil series to be the best Marvel series ever, so we’re excited to see Disney and Marvel Studios revive the show even if we have to wait until 2023.

Cox also confirmed that he does know a “little bit” of what’s next for Daredevil, but he’s remaining silent about it Speaking to THR, Cox said, “Look, I don’t have any idea what anyone’s plans are at this stage, but I presume there’s more for us to do”. The actor added: “I know a little bit — not a huge amount — but a little bit. I am imagining, I am hoping, that our worlds will collide again because the stuff we’ve done in the past was tremendous fun to do, and he’s such an incredible actor. We have to start every conversation with, ‘What do you know?’ because you have to be careful. It’s really exciting.”

How will Daredevil tie back into the MCU?

Charlie Cox’s Daredevil recently returned in the finale of Marvel’s She Hulk. A fourth season could potentially follow one of Phase 4’s biggest trends: introducing a character for the Young Avengers. Nearly every Phase 4 title has done this, including Black Widow, Loki, WandaVision, Hawkeye, and more. Marvel can introduce a fresher comics character who can serve as a link to their Young Avengers arc: Blindspot (Samuel Chung). The Daredevil comics run which started in 2015 introduced a new superhero known as Blindspot. Chung and his mother emigrated from China into the U.S. when he was just a child. Soon after arriving in the U.S., Samuel started working on an invisibility suit. After years of upgrading his suit and his fighting skills, he went to the streets, acting as an apprentice of Daredevil. It’s likely that Blindspot will appear in the MCU’s return to Daredevil in the new season and beyond since a Young Avengers movie is possibly in the works. MCU’s Phase 4 already introduced several potential members, including Kate Bishop, Wiccan, Speed, America Chavez, Ms. Marvel, and several others. Now, introducing Blindspot could tie Daredevil back into the MCU. It was reported that Krysten Ritter will be reprising her role as Jessica Jones for an MCU project, but they weren’t able to confirm what that project is.

Daredevil & other Marvel TV shows are heading to Disney+

Netflix subscribers had noticed that Daredevil and other Marvel TV shows like Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and The Defenders left Netflix in March 2022.

On March 1, Disney announced that these shows as well as the ABC Marvel series Agents of SHIELD will be added to Disney+ on March 16. With the Marvel shows from Netflix being mature-rated, Disney+ also launched new parental controls in order to prevent their children from watching dark scenes and themes found across these Marvel shows. These Marvel shows are now available to stream on Disney+ in the US, UK, Canada, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. Disney promises that these titles will be added to other Disney+ regions later this year.
