In a recent interview with Syfy, Elba was asked if there are plans for him to return to play Heimdall again in the MCU after briefly reprising the role last month in Thor: Love and Thunder. While he played coy with his response, he hinted that “something cooking” might be happening regarding it.
“Heimdall is a beloved character, I love playing him,” Elba said. “There may be something cooking.”
When Elba was pressed about the details regarding the plans for the character’s potential return, the actor simply responded, “I don’t know. I would tell you if I did. Well, probably not…”
It is hard to tell from Elba’s comments whether Marvel Studios actually has plans for Heimdall to return in the future despite the character already being in the afterlife or if the actor was just playing along and there are actually no definitive plans around that yet.
However, considering that the character made his surprise appearance in Love and Thunder for a quick cameo, it does leave the door open for his another comeback to possibly explore his life in Valhalla with Jane. There’s a chance that he will also reprise the role through voicework in an episode of What If…?
Either way, it is still exciting to hear nonetheless that there is a chance that we’ll see Heimdall again in a future MCU project. Considering that it’s the Multiverse Saga, there is also a possibility that he could show up through another version from another universe. There are certainly a lot of directions that they can take for his potential return.
