I Am Groot is a collection of canon shorts of the misadventures of Baby Groot in between Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 where he was planted by Rocket after Groot sacrificed himself to save the other, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 where the crew ventured into Quill’s past leading them straight to Ego.
I Am Groot Episode 1: Groot’s First Steps Explained
I Am Groot Episode 1 is titled Groot’s First Steps which follows the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1 and Baby Groot is still plated on his pot where he gets pampered by some tech on the ship, only to be replaced by a bonsai tree. Angered, Baby Groot did everything he can to oust the bonsai tree and discovered that he could elongate his arms. However, when he catapulted to the other tree, both of them fell to the ground and their pots broke. This is where Baby Groot realized he has feet but he is still learning how to use it.
I Am Groot Episode 2: The Little Guy Explained
I Am Groot Episode 2 is titled as The Little Guy and Baby Groot is seen to be building a tiny haven for himself only to be annoyed by a bird who wanted to nest in. Almost giving up, Baby Groot ended up beside a rock and when he lifted it, he found a small civilization of tiny aliens. The small race of alien are also known as the Grunds. To his excitement, Baby Groot introduced himself, even picking up a rock and blowing onto the tiny creatures. They armed themselves and attacked Baby Groot. However, when a leaf fell off of Baby Groot. The tiny civilization rejoiced. It turns out they eat leaves and one leaf is enough to feed the whole community. Baby Groot immediately realized that so he went to the nearest tree and grabbed a ton of leaves. Still, as clumsy as he is, Baby Groot realized his mistake before he could react to it. He stepped on the whole community of Grunds. Ashamed, Groot ran away but thankfully, the Grunds are alive.

I Am Groot Episode 3: Groot’s Pursuit Explained
I Am Groot Episode 3, Groot’s Pursuit, shows Baby Groot on the Guardians ship and he went out to investigate a strange noise haunting the Quadrant. He took a watch and made it into a flashlight on his head. All he could find, at first, are residue from the creature. To Baby Groot’s surprise, there is a creature that took on his form and says “I Am Groot.” Of course, Baby Groot is angered and it lead to a face-off, more accurately, an intense dance-off! Still wanting to eliminate the shape-shifting alien, Baby Groot still has a lot of tricks up his onesie sleeve and he danced off with the creature until it reaches the exit. He slams the door and watched the alien fly away to space. After that, he points to himself saying, “I am Groot.”
I Am Groot Episode 4: Groot Takes A Bath Explained
I Am Groot Episode 4 is Groot Takes A Bath and literally, that is what the episode is about but on top of Baby Groot’s relaxing dip is a hilarious short on how much Baby Groot’s temper could hold. Baby Groot found a puddle and he added a lot of things around it like bath bombs, candles, and all those stuff, even having small cucumbers for his eyes. Baby Groot even had the most relaxing mud massage where he put mud on his body. The mud, however, seems to have some leaf-growing properties and Baby Groot got excited that he had his very own fashion show. He grew a stache, weird outfits, even walking like royalty when he made a dress out of it. Baby Groot even tried what it is like to be a centaur or more accurately, a tree-taur! However, in the midst of Baby Groot’s fashion show, a nosy bird didn’t like him around and it was laughing really hard when the mud dried up. With his knack on destruction, Baby Groot gets his clap back to the bird as he skinned it off and made his own scarf!
I Am Groot Episode 5: Magnus Opus Explained
I Am Groot Episode 5, the last episode, is titled Magnus Opus. At first, Baby Groot was seen to be gathering a lot of materials, even cutting off some hair from Rocket’s tail and stole Drax’s soap and using it as a skateboard while Drax was in the shower. Baby Groot seems to be doing something important. Baby Groot even caused some explosions along the way. Realizing that he caused a hole on the floor, Baby Groot took a taped and started “fixing” his mess. When Rocket woke up to the noise, he found Baby Groot in a room full of explosions and a ton of mess. Rocket was worried that Baby Groot might be hurt but he handed Rocket a portrait that he made for his family, the Guardians. Rocket’s heart seemingly melted but an explosion followed and Baby Groot drags him to safety. These tiny shorts are part of the fourth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe which are confirmed to be canon and it fills in the gaps from the time Baby Groot wasn’t on screen.
