Condal also confirmed that casting Steve Toussaint as the Sea Snake was approved by George R.R. Martin, who had “considered the idea of making Velaryons a race of Black people with silver hair.” “That’s a fascinating idea,” Condal said. “And that always really stuck with me because it’s such a stark image. I just thought, ‘Well, why couldn’t we do a version of that now?’” In Martin’s Fire and Blood, the Velaryons are described as being generally white with silver hair and purple eyes, just like the Targaryens.
