Casey Bloys recently spoke to Vulture where he discussed the possibility of House of the Dragon Season 2 being released by late 2023. “Don’t expect it in ‘23, but I think sometime in ‘24,” Bloys said. The HBO Max chief content officer then pointed out that the second season is still in development.
“We’re just starting to put the plan together, and just like last time, there are so many unknowns,” Bloys stated. “It’s not to be coy or secretive, but you don’t want to say it’s going to be ready on this date, and then you have to move it,” he continued. This is disappointing news for fans who have been hoping that House of the Dragon Season 2 will be finished in time for release by the end of next year. It has already been reported that the second season will begin production in early 2023 and based on how filming went in the first season, it could be completed in 10 months. Unfortunately, HBO isn’t ready to commit to a late 2023 release date for House of the Dragon Season 2. That means fans will have to wait a little longer before finding out what happens to the Targaryens. The House of the Dragon finale concluded with the death of Lucerys Velaryon and Arrax after they were pursued by Aemond Targaryen and Vhagar. Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen has since learned about her son’s death and appears to be ready to start the war. House of the Dragon Season 2 has not yet been given an official release date.
