In a recent interview with Deadline, Ford was directly asked whether the upcoming film will see him passing the baton to another character. He quickly denied the claim and iterated that they are “just telling a story.” “No, I’m just telling a story. Telling a story. You’ll see. You’ll see. I hope you like it,” he simply said. Based on the comments, it sounds like the film will just simply be a pure final adventure story for Indiana Jones and it won’t have any set-up for a potential spinoff film which is what some people have been speculating since it will be Ford’s final film in the franchise and Lucasfilm might want to extend its lifeline.

However, it doesn’t mean that we might see the supporting characters such as Waller-Bridge’s Helena get their own spinoff project at some point in the future since there is a possibility that Lucasfilm will also explore that idea if it gets a positive response from the audience. Besides the upcoming film, Lucasfilm and Disney+ are also developing an Indiana Jones series that will reportedly center on Abner Ravenwood and a team of young explorers although it is still in early development at this point. James Mangold directed the film. The cast also includes John Rhys-Davies, Antonio Banderas, Shaunette Renee Wilson, Thomas Kretschmann, Toby Jones, Boyd Holbrook, Oliver Richters, Ethann Isidore, and Mads Mikkelsen. George Lucas and Steven Spielberg are involved as executive producers.
