The show will make a big comeback with new faces and a fan-favorite character, but with lesser Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) appearances. That said, here is what fans are about to see in Grey’s Anatomy Season 19.
Returning to the Series’ Roots
In an interview with TVLine, Vernoff revealed the show is about to hit the restart button with the new interns coming. “This season is really about returning to the roots of the show,” she said. “What can you do when you have five series-regular interns the way that we did in those early years? [Back then,] we wanted to focus on what it is to try and become a surgeon when you don’t know anything — how frightening and life-and-death everything is.” She continued that having this new batch let them “get back to that.” ALSO READ: Rihanna Finally Gives Super Bowl Halftime Show Performance Update, Teases Who She Will Share The Stage With Though the new doctors may lack experience, the actors behind them are already pros. “We spent a long time very carefully casting this group,” Vernoff added. “I love all five of the actors and all five of the characters, and that’s a really exciting place to start from.”
The Five New Interns

Due to her bad past, she doesn’t want to work at Sloan. Next is Harry Shum Jr., who will play the role of Daniel “Blue” Kwan, a witty and brilliant but impatient first-year surgical resident. He’s generous and competitive, and he now wants to prove himself after being interfered with by a family crisis. Third is Adelaide Kane as Jules Millin, another first-year surgical resident at Grey Sloan. As the only grown-up in the family, she has to take care of herself and her parents.
