D’Onofrio’s portrayal of Kingpin became a standout on the show over its three seasons, resulting in viewers wanting to see Kingpin in a major MCU project. Kingpin made his debut in the MCU in 2021 when D’Onofrio reprised his role in the Hawkeye series. However, his long-awaited return did not confirm whether the MCU’s Kingpin is the same version from Daredevil but it introduced new aspects to his story.
Kingpin’s MCU debut was teased throughout the Hawkeye series as being the “uncle” to Maya Lopez a.k.a. Echo (Alaqua Cox). Due to them having strong ties in the comics, the possibility of Echo and Kingpin’s MCU stories being connected was speculated by a lot of fans. This also included theories that Vincent D’Onofrio would return as Kingpin for Echo, the spinoff series starring Alaqua Cox’s Maya Lopez. The series has been rumored to not only feature Kingpin, but also the return of Charlie Cox’s Daredevil.
Recently, Atlanta Filming has released a set of photos from the Echo series showing Vincent D’Onofrio’s MCU return as Kingpin. In the photos that were released, he is wearing Fisk’s traditional white suit walking through the street. Although the context of the scene is still a mystery, these Echo photos do confirm that D’Onofrio will be returning as Kingpin for the MCU Phase 5 Disney+ show that is set to be released next summer.
