SM Entertainment formally launched its first SMTOWN Live show in five years and presented its artists to the fans in Suwon. The event, which happened on August 20, featured the agency’s artists, including Kangta, BoA, TVXQ, Super Junior, Girls Generation, NCT, aespa, GOT the Beat, and Raiden, to name a few. EXO members Xiumin, Suho, Chen, D.O., and Kai were also present at the event. Instead of a smooth-sailing event, it hit a glitch when EXO leader Suho made an unimpressive joke about the weather and his superpower. EXO Suho Condemned Due to Controversial Joke
Several internet users reposted a post from Pann’s website, discussing the idol’s controversial statement. During a talk segment on the show, Suho greeted fans and said something about the weather. “It’s such a relief that it’s not raining today, everyone you know that right? It’s my power. I’m so sorry for some time ago,” he said. The author of the post accused Suho of going overboard as he reportedly joked about the heavy rain that recently damaged South Koreans’ homes and claimed several lives. Thus, he joked about controlling the rain before the concert. While some fans expressed their disbelief over his statement, some defended him and said that people just misinterpreted the situation. He and his agency have not commented on the issue yet. But he dropped the joke after Seoul suffered the heaviest rainfall in 115 years.
Seoul’s Severe Flooding Leaves People Dead, Missing
The public’s rage is rooted in the recent disaster Seoul faced. The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters revealed this month that people died and nearly 20 people were injured after the heaviest rains lashed the city, Gyeonggi, and Gangwon province. Over 2,000 houses and buildings were left damaged, but the government immediately cleared most highways and metro lines as soon as the rain stopped. Meanwhile, the Korea Meteorological Administration estimated that the accumulated rainfall in Seoul was around 525mm in less than four days. The event forced the authorities to review their plans to smoothly respond to such tragedies and natural emergencies.
