The new fashion line was revealed recently by Japanese apparel brand Graniph through its official website and Twitter account. There, the designs of the fashion pieces were revealed.
Typically, Dragon Ball collabs are based on either Dragon Ball Z (DBZ) or Dragon Ball Super. This makes sense considering DBZ is the part of the anime that features iconic characters such as Frieza and Cell. Meanwhile, Super is an ongoing manga, so it’s still incredibly popular today. Instead of these, Graniph’s collab is with the original Dragon Ball, specifically the anime series that chronicled Goku in his youth and is based on the first 194 chapters of the manga. Because of this, the graphics that adorn the Graniph apparel don’t feature an adult Goku, nor are the likes of Vegeta and Frieza found. Instead, the designs are taken straight out of the original manga, including the young Goku and Krillin, the teenage Bulma, Piccolo, Yamcha, and more.
In case you only watched DBZ or need a refresher for the classic series, the original Dragon Ball followed the young monkey-tailed Goku as he befriends a teenage girl named Bulma. They soon begin an adventure to find the seven Dragon Balls which can summon the dragon Shenron who can grant any wish. Along the way, Goku and Bulma meet various characters, including Oolong, Yamcha, Chi-Chi, and more. While there was still a focus on martial arts, the original Dragon Ball had a lighter and more comedic tone than its successor. It also didn’t feature any other Saiyans, nor are there any ki abilities.
The Dragon Ball and Graniph fashion line consists of 21 pieces, all of which feature classic graphics. This makes the collab unique, especially considering that most apparel crossovers have DBZ or Super designs. Specifically, the collab is composed of sweatshirts, long-sleeved tees, short-sleeved graphic tees, jackets, caps, and tote bags. Pricing of the collection starts at JPY 2,500 (around USD 17.45), with the most expensive being a reversible blouson priced at JPY 11,000 (around USD 76.80) The collection is available for pre-order now via the Graniph website. This collab will also be released in Japanese Graniph stores on September 27, 2022. In Other News: One Piece Red to Release Film-Inspired Fashion, Lingerie Line by Peach John
