The new episode is a special two-part feature following two stories from The Sandman’s Dream Country storyline in the comic books. The first part of the episode is an animated adaptation of The Sandman Volume 2 #18 where a Siamese cat shares her dream with a gathering of numerous felines. Meanwhile, the second part is based on Calliope, the story of a writer who is presented with the legendary muse to help him write his new novel.
A Dream of a Thousand Cats is a gorgeous animated feature that boasts a stellar cast led by Sandra Oh as the Siamese cat aka The Prophet. It also stars former Doctor Who actor David Tennant and his wife Georgia Tennant, who previously played the Doctor’s Daughter.
Amazingly, there’s more for Whovians to be excited about in the second part of the special episode. Calliope stars former Companion Arthur Darvill as Richard Mardoc, the writer who imprisons a muse for ideas for his new novel. Erasmus Fry, the man who gives Richard the muse in the first place, is portrayed by the legendary Derek Jacobi, who is known for playing Professor Yana aka The Master in Doctor Who.
We’re loving the bonus episode for bringing back our beloved Doctor Who stars. In addition to that, the special feature is a great glimpse at other Sandman stories that were not necessarily connected to the main storyline in the previous episodes. With that in mind, we’re hoping to see more of these special episodes in The Sandman Season 2.
All episodes of The Sandman, including A Dream of a Thousand Cats/Calliope, are now streaming on Netflix.
