The “main titles” theme of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness composed by Danny Elfman received a nomination in Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella. It marks the first time ever that a comic book film received a nomination in this category. Michael Giacchino’s score for The Batman made it to the list of nominees in the Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media category where it will be competing against other films and TV shows such as Encanto, No Time to Die, The Power of the Dog, and the third season of Succession.
Meanwhile, the score for the Guardians of the Galaxy video game composed by Richard Jacques also received a nomination in the inaugural Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media category. It is competing against Aliens: Fireteam Elite, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Dawn of Ragnarok, Call of Duty: Vanguard, and Old World. While it may sound unusual that the two aforementioned comic book movies are now Grammy-nominated, it is exciting to hear nonetheless and it is a testament to the works of the composers since it managed to get recognized by the most prestigious music award-giving body. Now, it is curious to see whether these nominations will lead to a win in the ceremony early next year. In the case of The Batman, it is also interesting to see if this could also potentially lead to an Oscar nomination in the next ceremony as well.
