One of the new characters that were announced is Jyubei Aryu, an expert soccer player who is the second-best in the Blue Lock program. He has an impressive reach and jumping power, but he also has a narcissistic personality. Voicing Jyubei is Katsuyuki Konishi, a voice actor who is known for voicing Tengen Uzui in Demon Slayer. He is also the voice of Kamina in Gurren Lagann, Diavolo from JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Golden Wind, and Keigo Asano and Shuhei Hisagi in Bleach. The next character is Rin Itoshi, the top player of “Blue Lock” who is voiced by Koski Uchiyama. He is known as the voice of Meruem in Hunter x Hunter (2011), Kei Tsukushima in Haikyuu!!, and Tomura Shigaraki in My Hero Academia. Rounding out the new characters is Aoshi Tokimitsu, a powerful player with a lot of stamina but is held back by his negativity. Tokimitsu is voiced by Shinnosuke Tachibana, the voice of Tomoe in Kamisama Kiss and Seidou Takizawa in Tokyo Ghoul.
Blue Lock is an upcoming anime series that’s based on the manga of the same name by Muneyuki Kaneshiro. This ongoing manga series started serialization in Weekly Shonen Magazine on August 1, 2018. Typically, sports manga follow high school sports teams, but Blue Lock is different as it instead follows the Japanese national football team. The series is set in Japan following the national team’s defeat at the 2018 World Cup. In their quest to build a better team, the Japan Football Union has gathered 300 of Japan’s best youth soccer players in the “Blue Lock” program. It turns out that this program puts all the candidates together in a prison-like facility. There, they are pitted against each other, with the last remaining player becoming the national team’s striker. The stakes turn out to be even higher as the players that are defeated will be banned from joining the national football team forever. Blue Lock Episode 1 will air in Japan on October 9 at 1:30 AM JST. Currently, there’s no word yet on which platform the series will be released outside Japan.
