While most people would think that Deadpool is the rip-off of DC’s Deathstroke, of course, the two are rivals and wouldn’t give in on who is the rip-off. Looking under the same umbrella of characters, in Marvel, the closest to Deadpool is possibly Spider-Man. Well, it wouldn’t be a surprise, though. Just look at them, they are hilarious, mischievous, and annoying, most of the time, but they both wear red, too, with hints of black, of course, and most painful of all is that both of them lost people that they love the most. Uncle Ben and Vanessa. Some years ago, the creator of Deadpool, Rob Liefeld, personally revealed to Vulture that Deadpool is, indeed, the rip-off of Spider-Man, “I specifically told Marvel, ‘He’s Spider-Man, except with guns and swords.’ The idea was, he’s a jackass.” Liefeld shared, “Spider-Man in 1990 was a depressed married guy. The Spider-Man I grew up with would make fun of you or punch you in the face and make small cracks. That was the entire intent with Deadpool.”

Liefeld also revealed why their masks are similar, “The simplicity of the mask was my absolute jealousy over Spider-Man and the fact that both of my buddies, [fellow Marvel artists] Erik Larsen and Todd McFarlane, would tell me, ‘I love drawing Spider-Man. You just do an oval and two big eyes. You’re in, you’re out.’” Sure, Deadpool is a more vulgar version but consider, too, that Spider-Man is a kid and Deadpool isn’t called the Merc with a Mouth for no reason. Their personalities are quite different but their similarities on the appearance are uncanny. With the upcoming arrival of Deadpool in the MCU with Deadpool 3 happening on November 8, 2024, it is highly likely that Deadpool and Spider-Man would cross paths some time in the future. Whether it’d be a good occasion or not, it seems fun to have both of them in one scene. Just imagine Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool having an argument with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, picture that and you can spell “chaos.” Deadpool 3 arrives in theaters on November 8, 2024. Spider-Man 4 will reportedly be arriving on July 12, 2024. They’re not far long from each other, right?
