The hit CBS procedural series has been revived for another 10-episode season. Unfortunately, not every original cast will return to Criminal Minds Season 16, and only a few fan-favorite characters will be seen.
The Returning Original Characters in Criminal Minds Season 16
Sadly, Matthew Gray Gubler and Daniel Henney, who play Dr. Spencer Reid and Matt Simmons, will not be part of the new season. Gubler has been a mainstay of the series from the beginning to its supposed end on CBS and even helped direct some episodes, but he will not reprise his role this time. A.J. Cook will join them as Special Agent Jennifer Jareau, Aisha Tyler as the forensic psychologist and Special Agent Tara Lewis, and Paget Brewster as BAU Unit Chief Emily Prentiss.
Criminal Minds Season 16 Plotline
Prentiss will once again lead the BAU on their latest investigation. According to ScreenRant, the BAU will be tracking OneSub this season. This UnSub has taken advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic to build a network of serial killers. Deadline broke the news about Criminal Minds Season 16’s release date as announced by Paramount+. The show will then go on a brief hiatus after the mid-season finale on December 15 and will return on January 12, running through February 9.
