Cobra Kai Season 5 directly continues the story from Cobra Kai Season 4, as Terry Silver’s Cobra Kai won the All-Valley Tournament, meaning that Daniel and Johnny had to close down their dojos. Meanwhile, John Kreese (Martin Cove) was imprisoned as part of Silver’s plant to create an empire of Cobra Kai dojos across The Valley. This plan as well as Cobra Kai’s willingness to bring back some characters from previous movies led to speculations that The Karate Kid Part III’s Mike Barnes could be returning soon.
That speculation was officially confirmed by Netflix as Sean Kanan will be returning as Mike Barnes in Cobra Kai Season 5. The release of the first images of the upcoming Season 5 features many exciting developments in the story, but the big reveal is the first look at the return of Mike Barnes. Executive Producers Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald teased that Cobra Kai Season 5 will bring back Mike Barnes after Karate Kid III and how it will affect the rest of the season by saying “As Terry Silver calls upon some old friends to put the Valley in a stranglehold, Daniel and Johnny are going to need all the help they can get to stop Cobra Kai in its tracks.”
