Three decades ago, Christina Ricci donned the role of Wednesday Addams in the 90s duology, The Addams Family. Now, with an upcoming series on Netflix on her beloved character, Wednesday, Ricci shared her thoughts with Collider how she felt coming back to the family she once belonged to.
Ricci expressed that she has a personal connection to the upcoming series, “Well, it’s, I mean, you know, it’s such a fun world. And, you know, it’s sort of I’ve always viewed myself as a kind of a natural contrarian"
Ricci explains how the role fit her personality, “Being in a world where everybody’s just like thrilled to be doing the wrong thing. It’s just great for me, I love it. So that is what that world represents a lot for me emotionally.”
Ricci added that she feels honored to work with the director of Wednesday, “It’s Tim Burton, I was so honored to be asked by him because he is just, you know, a genius. And then also to be a part to be asked to be a part of the new version of this thing that is a huge part of my identity and my history in my life.”

Ricci also cited her thoughts on her former character, Wednesday Addams, “I mean, I know they didn’t do it out of the goodness of their hearts, but I was really touched by it, and I felt like it was very nice. And it’s such a fun world, and my character is outrageous and fun and different than anything I’ve done, and it was really great.”
Ricci ended her statement with her excitement on Jenna Ortega’s version of Wednesday Addams on the series, “I just had a really lovely experience on that with Jenna, who is amazing, and I think now people have a taste of her Wednesday, and it’s gonna be fantastic. She is really incredible. And Gwendoline Christie, I love working with her. She’s my favorite.”
Wednesday will follow the peculiar titular Addams family member as she enters Nevermore academy where she will be dealing with a new environment while establishing new friendships and solving the mystery of the town following a series of murders.
Wednesday will be the very first series to be directed by acclaimed movie director, Tim Burton, and it will be on Netflix when it comes out. Danny Elfman will score the show.
Jenna Ortega will be playing the titular Wednesday and she will be joined by Catherine Zeta-Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams, Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley, Jamie McShane as Sheriff Donovan Galpin, and Gwendoline Christie as Larissa Weems. Christina Ricci will play a mystery role on the series.
Wednesday has no exact release date yet on Netflix but it will be out by Fall this year.
