So what convinced Charlize Theron to join the MCU? The Old Guard actor just admitted that it all happened during one memorable spring break. Charlize Theron recently spoke to The Hollywood Reporter where she spoke about how she was offered a role in the MCU but it took some time for her to be convinced to take part in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, especially because she hasn’t seen any Marvel films before.
“If I can find the anchor, then I’m never going to be a snob about, like, ‘Oh, does this make me less of a powerful actor?’ I was ignorant, I didn’t know those movies well enough until a family who I consider, like, my adopted family had me watch them,” Theron said. “They’re crazy Marvel fans, and I always used to make fun of them,” she continued. “Like, ‘Oh my God, you guys are such fucking nerds.’ Then one spring break we rented a house and our kids were in a camp and they were like, ‘You need to fucking sit down and watch.’ So, we watched all the movies, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, they’re so f-cking good.’ And the kids got in on it, too, and it was such an enjoyable ride.” Since then, Charlize Theron has joined the MCU and is set to continue playing Clea in future Marvel projects, and she says her character’s story has been teased for some time now. “And there’s a mythology around it and it’s been thought out over decades with Clea, and I’m challenged by that. Like, how do you reinvent that? So, I’m excited, but I honestly don’t know what the fuck it’s going to be,” Theron said. For now, it’s still unclear when Clea will be back but we’re looking forward to seeing more of Charlize Theron in the MCU.
