Chainsaw Man Chapter 105 was released earlier this week, and it shows us the aftermath of Denji and Asa Mitaka’s conversation on the rooftop with Yoshida. Soon, things take a turn for the unexpected.
The chapter opens with Asa speaking to Yoru (aka the War Devil). While Yoru believes Denji’s words that he is indeed Chainsaw Man, Asa does not believe this at all. As she goes out of school, she begins believing she can control Yoru. Asa makes her way to Yuko, her fellow Devil Hunter Club member whom she rescued when the Cockroach Devil attacked. They soon strike up a conversation, with Yuko asking Asa to reveal a deep secret. While Asa shares an embarrassing story, Yuko confesses that she killed her neighbor just recently for gambling while on welfare for disability. Yuko then tells Asa that she made a contract with the Justice Devil which turns her sense of justice into power, enabling her to read minds. She also says that Asa’s secrets, including Yoru, are safe with her. The chapter ends with Yuko saying that she will get rid of Asa’s bullying problem and that she shouldn’t come to school tomorrow.
Many fans were impressed and shocked in equal measure by the sudden turn of events. On Reddit discussion threads, fans have commented on how dark the events of the chapter were and how it was the signature of Tatsuki Fujimoto. Praise was directed to how author Fujimoto used a paneling style that echoes his one-shot Goodbye Eri to great effect. The chapter’s dark and tense atmosphere was also praised, especially when Yuko revealed her plan.
Because of her chilling parting words, many believe that Yuko will go on a killing spree at the school, possibly prompting Denji into action. While there have been many dark moments in the series, a school massacre might just be one of the darkest yet. If this does turn out to be the case, this might all go according to Yoru’s plan. After all, the War Devil said that getting a Devil to attack the school might just be the way to draw Chainsaw Man out. Chainsaw Man Chapter 106 will be released in Shonen Jump+ in Japan and on Manga Plus internationally on October 11 at 11 AM ET / 8 AM PT.
