During his recent panel appearance at the LightBox Expo (via Laughing Place), What If…? director Bryan Andrews revealed that Blanchett is set to reprise her role of Hela in its upcoming second season. The casting was unveiled when he shared his astonishment at recording the actress for an upcoming episode. While he didn’t provide any details about the specific episode that Blanchett will appear in and how her character’s appearance will exactly play into the story of the episode, he did hint that it will be a Hela that “you’ve never seen her before.”

So far, Marvel Studios has only revealed a handful of names who are confirmed to appear in the upcoming season. Besides Blanchett, Elizabeth Olsen, Rachel Weisz, Sebastian Stan, Samuel L. Jackson, and Hayley Atwell are also set to reprise their MCU roles in the next batch of episodes. During their San Diego Comic-Con panel last July, Hela was already confirmed to appear in the series when she was seen in the sneak peek reel that they showed to the audience. This is the first time that Blanchett’s casting in the series was confirmed. It is exciting to learn that the Oscar winner was able to voice the character for the upcoming season, considering that some major MCU characters were recast with other actors like Tony Stark, Natasha Romanoff, and Steve Rogers instead of the live-action actors who portrayed them. It’s interesting to see which more familiar MCU actors are set to appear in the upcoming season.
