Blue Lock is an anime series adaptation of the manga of the same name by Muneyuki Kaneshiro which started serialization in Weekly Shonen Magazine on August 1, 2018. Unlike most sports manga, Blue Lock does not follow a high school sports team. Instead, it follows the story of the Japanese national football team. The series follows the national team after a disastrous defeat at the 2018 World Cup. As the Japan Football Union aims to build a better team, they’ve gathered 300 of Japan’s best youth soccer players. These players are put into “Blue Lock,” a program developed by coach Jinpachi ego to produce the country’s most talented striker. As part of this program, the recruits are put into a prison-like facility where they are pitted against each other. The last remaining player will become the national team’s striker while those who are defeated will be banned from joining, forever. The Blue Lock anime series is set to release in Japan on October 9 at 1:30 AM JST. Currently, there’s no word yet on which platform the series will release outside Japan.
