However, as it turns out, the character was also supposed to make a major appearance in an earlier part of the film. In a recent interview with Variety, Angela Bassett revealed that she actually filmed a scene with Divine Love Konadu-Sun, who plays T’Challa’s son, but it was removed from the final cut. “I filmed a scene,” she said. “I did, but you know — cutting room, readjusting and reshaping it. What does Ramonda say? Oh, ‘Shuri, there’s something that I need to tell you.’” The actress added, “I went to Haiti, of course. I met him, I was introduced to him… but it wound up on the cutting room floor.”

Bassett explained that the removal of the scene from the final cut of the film was “to make it a surprise for the audience and to Shuri. It was the right way to go. Perfect to go about it.” While it would have been great to see an extended interaction with Ramonda and T’Challa’s son in the film itself, you can argue that they really made a better choice of introducing him instead during the mid-credits scene since it ended up becoming a sweeter moment that would leave a mark to the audience. There is also a surprise factor to the scene that would make it more impactful and have the audience excited about the future as well as its implication to the future of Wakanda (or even the MCU overall) now that they are moving on from T’Challa’s death.
