Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, who co-wrote the screenplay for Avatar: The Way of Water with James Cameron, recently spoke to Variety about bringing back the first film’s actors as new characters. When asked about Kiri’s mysterious conception, the writers had interesting answers. “I don’t think we ever spoke about her specifically as a Na’vi Jesus,” Jaffa said.
“But it’s a mystery,” Silver added. “We can’t really talk about it.” “We set up these questions,” Jaffa stated. “We want people talking and thinking about these things.” People are certainly talking about Avatar 2 and Sigourney Weaver’s performance as a 14-year-old character. In addition to that, fans were quick to note that Kiri has an intriguing connection to the creatures of Pandora, which in turn could confirm that the girl may be strongly connected to Eywa. For now, Kiri’s skills and possible powers have only been teased in Avatar: The Way of Water. However, there is a huge chance we’ll get to learn more about the character in the highly anticipated sequel. Sigourney Weaver played Grace Augustine in the first Avatar movie but the character died just as the Na’vi attempted to permanently transfer her consciousness to her avatar. She returns as Kiri in Avatar: The Way of Water and is expected to reprise the new role in Avatar 3 and 4. Avatar: The Way of Water is currently screening in theaters worldwide.
