On Twitter, user @AoTJewels shared a clip from the series’ first season which shows the reveal of Annie being the Female Titan. In the post, they remarked how today marks the 9th anniversary of this pivotal scene.
This Annie reveal happened in Episode 23 of Season 1 entitled “Smile: Assault on Stohess, Part 1”. This episode’s story is a major event as it begins the climactic events of the first season. In case you need a refresher, this episode follows Annie as she prepares to join the Military Police in escorting Eren to the capital. But Armin instead asks for her help to sneak Eren away to safety. As they head underground, Annie refuses to comply, confirming Armin’s speculation that Annie is the Female Titan. With her cover blown, Annie transforms into the Female Titan in the middle of Stohess District. Thus begins the season’s final battle. Annie being the Female Titan is a reveal that shook anime-only fans who watched the series. This is because having humans within the walls secretly being powerful Titans upped the stakes of the series. It also added even more mysteries as, at the time, information about the Nine Titans along with any details about lands outside the walls were not revealed yet.
Aside from looking back fondly on this major Attack on Titan plot twist, fans have also expressed how they can’t believe that it has been nine years since the series’ release. Attack on Titan is an anime series that’s based on the manga of the same name by Hajime Isayama. The series began with its first season by Wit Studio which was released in 2013. It was followed up by two seasons, also made by Wit. Though the show’s final season was moved to MAPPA. This season is split into three parts, with the first two being released in early 2020 and 2021, respectively.
