Evangeline Lilly and the ensemble of Ant-Man 3 sat down with the press at the Q&A of this year’s CCXP and discussed the expectations in the threequel, one of which is the revelation of dark secrets that will set the narrative.
Lilly, who has played Hope van Dyne since the first installment of the trilogy, teased the exploration of her relationship with her mother, Michelle Pfeiffer’s Janet van Dyne, and the toll it took on both of them when her mother vanished in the quantum realm for 30 years.
“Of course, Hope was so excited to get her Mom back. And she was thinking, this is gonna be a fantasy, and I’m going to have my mom, and we’re going to be best friends and we’ll tell each other everything and life will be intimate and my life will be perfect.” she narrated.
The actress explained that, given the predicament, this journey that Ant-Man 3 will unravel will be dark and difficult, “Life is never perfect, especially with parents who spent thirty years in the Quantum realm. And so there’s a lot that Hope doesn’t know, and doesn’t find out about her mom until this journey begins. And it’s a dark and difficult thing to deal with for her.”
Pfeiffer echoed Lilly’s sentiments by stating that the third film goes epic and darker, “It gets, at times, a little darker than we have gone. And it is epic.”

With the hope that Ant-Man 3 will play a key role in kicking off Phase 5, and with Paul Rudd in the titular role, the third installment will have a significant transition that will flow into a fairly large story. “So now a lot has transpired since the end of Ant-Man and the Wasp. And I think Scott is trying to figure out, ‘Where do we go in life now?’ And so pretty quickly, a chain of events happens and we are thrust into a pretty big story.” he shared.
The Society Kathryn Newton was initially introduced to the team as Scott Lang’s daughter Cassie Lang, and the plot of the film will highlight Scott and his family’s family dynamics as they face the worst that could claim the death of a major character by the end.
Ant-Man 3 is also slated to introduce the next big bad of Marvel, Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), as well as Bill Murray playing a rogue character linked to the history of Janet in the Quantum Realm.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will debut in theaters on February 17, 2023.
