The announcement of the new manga was made via the official Naruto and Boruto manga Twitter account. There, details were shared about the new manga and their upcoming release schedule on Shonen Jump+.

The first of the two series is Sasuke Retsuden: The Uchiha Descendants and the Heavenly Stardust. This manga is based on the light novel of the same name that’s written by Jun Esaka and illustrated by Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of Naruto. Sasuke Retsuden is set after the events of Naruto: Shippuden but before Boruto: Naruto Next Generations. Specifically, it follows Sasuke who joins Sakura to begin an investigation concerning the Rikudo Sennin aka the Sage of Six Paths. In the story, Sasuke and Sakura are already married, though it’s likely that their daughter Sarada has not been born yet. The two will take on a mission to investigate the Astronomy Institute of Research that’s located far away from the Land of Fire. But as the story progresses, they soon find out that a major plan is already in place, and they must face this new threat. Aside from Sasuke Retsuden, Esaka also wrote two other light novels in the series, including Kakashi Retsuden: The Sixth Hokage and the Failure Boy and Naruto Retsuden: Naruto Uzumaki and the Spiral Destiny. All three of his Retsuden novels were published in Japan in 2019 and featured stories that are set between Naruto and Boruto.

Aside from the upcoming Sasuke-focused manga, there will also be a manga adaptation of the Konoha Shinden: Steam Ninja Scrolls light novel written by Sho Hinata. The Steam Ninja Scrolls light novel is set at the same time as Naruto Chapter 700 – a chapter that serves as the epilogue for the Naruto manga. The novel’s story then ends at the same time as Naruto Gaiden Chapter 700+10. This novel’s story is set 15 years after the Fourth Shinobi World War and follows Kakashi and Might Guy as they go on a secret mission: a well-earned vacation. The Sasuke Retsuden manga adaptation will begin serialization on October 23, 2022, on Jump+.

It will be followed by Steam Ninja Scrolls which will serialize starting October 29, 2022, also on Jump+. The new Naruto manga series will be posted every other week according to the announcement tweet, which likely means that both series will have a bi-weekly release schedule. Right now though, there’s no word yet on if this manga will be released on Manga Plus outside Japan.
